Over 50% of the population allows their dog to stay indoors and sleep on the couch or in their owners bed. If you want to have your dog have his or her own space, here are simple tips in DIY dog house.
1. You should begin your dog house building process by making sure the house is big enough to accommodate your animals potential adult size. Humans enjoy having about 2 feet of air above us in a room in order to live without feeling claustrophobic. This allowance of space might also be applicable for your dog. As for standing comfortably, the measurement should be at least 1/3. To figure out how much room the dog will need get out a tape measure and measure your dog. Measure him standing straight up, sitting on his haunches and above all measure the full dimension of the dog when he is the most comfortable, relaxed and stretched out position he can get into. Your dog should be able to look out the front entrance while both standing up and sitting. Ensure that the dog will have the space to just move comfortably without scraping his belly and the entrance should be relatively high. Stand over the dog and measure the width of the widest point of the animals shoulders.
2. It is very important to have a couple of inches allowance between the ground and the bottom of the dog house in order to have good flow of air as well as water. Getting proper ventilation is important in order to stop pests invading the dog house. Put in a few nickel-sized holes in the walls under the eaves. Install a wind block inside the house so the dog can use the heat of its own body to warm up the area if it is really cold or windy outside. Add an escape getaway wall for your dog in case there during bad weather. Give some options for your dog like through putting enough room wherein he or she can either sleep either right at the entrance or just inside the dog house. Your beloved pet would probably love having a pillow or some sort of bedding to sleep on.
3. In order to minimize chances of having rain getting inside the dog house, make the roof slanted. Make sure the house is well insulated but you should not paint the inside.
4. In the United States most storms come from the south and west so make sure the dog house faces a different direction. However, it is highly recommended have the dog house face the east direction. The cold air will not be able to whip through the entryway then.
5. Put some hinges right on the roof. You should clean the dogs house as often as you give your dog a bath.
If your dog lives outside then he deserves to have a comfortable place to sleep and get out of harsh weather. By simply following the tips mentioned-above, you will surely build a good DIY dog house for your most love pet, your dog.
